2024 Vintage

A New Adventure,

Same See Ya Later Spirit

The 2024 growing season brought an unexpected challenge to BC’s Okanagan vineyards, with a historic freeze dramatically shrinking the harvest. But at See Ya Later Ranch, we’re all about turning life’s little surprises into something worth celebrating. Sure, the frost threw us a curveball, but we weren’t about to let a little chill slow us down.

To keep the good times flowing, we teamed up with our friends in the Pacific Northwest to craft wines that bring the same bold character and lively spirit you know and love. Every other step beyond the vineyard, from finishing to aging and packaging, happened right here at home in Canada, crafted with the same passion and dedication to quality that define See Ya Later Ranch. Our winemaking crew has been up to all sorts of fun, ensuring that every bottle meets our exacting standards so while the grapes may have a different zip code, they’ve still got that unmistakable SYLR flair.

So, grab a bottle, gather your crew, and let’s toast to turning challenges into chances for more fun.

A New Playground:

The Pacific Northwest

When life handed us frost, we made wine anyway! Our adventure led us to the spectacular Columbia Plateau in Washington State, where we discovered premium grapes that could pass as cousins to our Okanagan Valley favourites.

We partnered with Washington’s most respected growers to find varietals that perfectly mirror the character of our BC-grown grapes. The result? Wines that taste unmistakably like the See Ya Later Ranch you know and love, just with a slight Pacific Northwest accent!

The Columbia Plateau’s similar climate to the Okanagan means these wines still have that signature SYLR DNA – they just took a little road trip south before coming home to Canada for crafting. Mother Nature may have thrown us a curveball, but we knocked it out of the park with wines that stay true to our roots while embracing a new playground of possibilities!

This has been a unique challenge, but also a great learning experience. Even while working with fruit from outside the Okanagan, we’ve stayed focused on crafting wines that reflect the style and quality our fans know and love. It’s made me appreciate our home vineyards more than ever—and reminded me just how special the Okanagan really is.”

Q&A

How did the freeze impact the vineyards?

January 2024 brought an unprecedented cold snap to the Okanagan, with temperatures dropping below -20°C for an extended period. This severe frost caused significant damage across our vineyards, substantially reducing our grape harvest for the season.

At See Ya Later Ranch, we’ve always faced challenges with a glass-half-full attitude. While our vineyards take time to recover, we’ve crafted a creative solution to ensure we continue pouring the exceptional wines you’ve come to love.

Is this only impacting See Ya Later Ranch or also all other BC wines?

This frosty situation affected nearly all BC wineries, with about 90% of grape production across the province taking a hit. Throughout wine country, we’ve all had to think on our feet – proving that great winemaking is as much about adaptation as it is tradition.

What does this mean for See Ya Later Ranch wines this year?

Thanks to the BC government’s “Vintage Replacement” program, we were able to explore new territory while staying true to our winemaking philosophy.

We partnered with top-tier growers in the Pacific Northwest whose terroir and varieties complement our Okanagan profile beautifully. The result? A special limited release for 2024 that captures the distinctive character and quality you expect from See Ya Later Ranch.

Consider this vintage our special adventure series – same See Ya Later Ranch personality, with a dash of Pacific Northwest influence. Our winemaking team embraced this opportunity with both creativity and precision.

Is the change temporary?

Absolutely. This is a short-term solution while our vines recover. Over the next year and a half, we anticipate a strong comeback as we carefully replant and nurture our vineyards back to health.

Our heart remains in the Okanagan, and we're looking forward to returning to our estate-grown VQA wines. Until then, our 2024 release stands ready to deliver the quality and enjoyable experience that defines See Ya Later Ranch.

How has the quality of the wines been maintained?

We know our wines are part of your meaningful moments and everyday celebrations. As we navigated this challenge, our mission was clear: maintain the character and quality you’ve come to expect.

We sought out partners in the Pacific Northwest who grow varieties remarkably similar to our BC grapes. Working with growers who share our commitment to excellence (and our love of a good time), we selected premium fruit that meets our high standards.

From there, our talented BC winemaking team worked their magic – applying all their expertise and passion to ensure every bottle delivers that unmistakable See Ya Later Ranch experience. Different starting point, same happy ending.
